Major Health Update

October 4, 2025

Wanted to make a quick update to my health and in general. It has been about 1 year give or take since I started my weight loss journey. Starting weight was 187.6 pounds at 5'2 to my low of 130 pounds making it over 50 pounds of total weight lost in about 6 months. I kept most of the weight off (gained back 15 pounds in a year but trying to lose that again) but it has come with challenges stemming from my weight loss and how I went about it in this blog that I am reeling from the effects currently.

First off, tracking your protein intake along with crucial vitamins and nutrients is an absolute must!!! I unfortunately did not make this a priority when it should have been. I incorrectly focused on a calorie deficit only. While that itself is crucial for weight loss but it should have been 1 piece out of many pieces of the puzzle for a successful and healthy weight loss.

What ended up happening to me is that in June 2025 I suffered a really bad health scare that landed me in urgent care. I had anemia. I was pretty low in iron and turns out I have been deficient for a long time. I was also low in potassium which is crucial to keeping your electrolytes in balance which can quickly get out of wack if you don't track or eat balanced or drink WAY too much water. Uhhh ME!

I have since started taking a lot more supplements, mainly iron and prenatals (NOT pregnant but it's good for health). A few others too. Getting my blood tested again soon to reevaluate my needs.

I have also lost an insane amount of hair due to a lot of factors. Low iron being an obvious one. Aside from losing 50 pounds in 6 months (AKA telogen effluvium) but suffered from severe stress from leaving a toxic relationship while also grieving from the death of my mother. Not to mention I was in a car accident as we left the funeral. A whole lot of tragedy in a short time span of like 3 months. It was severe stress episodes one after another and my hair shed like crazy, pulling out clumps at a time and thinned out so much I had to chop it all off to shoulder length. So now I am impatiently waiting for it all to grow back but even with short hair, my hair is sparse and crazy thin. However, in my new spin off blog linked in my last post, I am chronicling my progress. It's very slow progress but pictures don't lie.

So....what can YOU do to prevent this? First off, get your blood checked for any deficiencies before you consider supplements. Sure, the excess gets excreted in your urine but it is best to know exactly what is going on in your body periodically. Not necessary to go to the ER, Urgent Care or even the hospital. Clinics offer cheap options just Google around or call a clinic. Aside from that: multivitamins or prenatals should be enough but I honestly did not start off my weight loss journey with that. Have adequate iron, b complex, potassium, sodium, folate, vitamins c and d and so on. All are extremely crucial. I felt I did keto the wrong way and did not put enough emphasis on vitamins and I suffered greatly. A quick Google search will give you a gauge how much you should aim for daily.

Please take caution with my blog. It is by no means what I recommend you do. There is a right way to do keto without being deficient in vitamins and minerals and a wrong way and I led myself astray. Let my blog be inspiration but please don't do the mistakes I did make sure you get the proper care for your body. Your future self will thank you.
