April Weigh In

Here we are on month 2 of my weight loss journey and 2nd official weigh in and measurements since I decided I want to lose weight.

Good news? There is progress.

Bad news? Wasn't that big of progress as expected.

I went down . 2 on my BMI. Cool?
However, we cannot be pessimistic especially when it comes to progress. Little progress is still miles better than no progress or even worse, had I gained weight. Healthy weight loss goals aim for you to lose 1 pound a week. I honestly haven't reached that yet. If you are of those people then please don't let this deter you a single bit. It's a small victory and should definitely be celebrated!

I, for one, am happy. But like last month, I should have done better.

One of the best habits I implemented was that due to the StepBet challenge I sign myself up for is that after every dinner, I go for a bare minimum 30 minute run on the treadmill. Some days I run up to 45 minutes and other times I stop at the stroke of 30. Unfortunately, I don't carry that momentum once I finish my 6 week challenge. I always take full advantage of that 1st warm up week which means that inefficient steps won't count against you. That's definitely something I need to change.

Also needed to point out that I use the term "run" loosely, it would be more correct for me to say that I jog more than anything for fear of overexerting my muscles since I am super out of shape. If it's one thing that's a major exercise killer is muscle injury. Can't get those steps if I hurt myself to the point where I can't even take a step, right? It's happened before.

Even though I upped my physical activity, I'm still, under Fitbit's law, I am pretty out of shape. Definitely a gage that I can continue to try to change.

(Note to future me: Access this by tapping on my heart rate and then swipe on the cardio tab.)

So I am trying to work myself up to running. According to my treadmill settings, I am jogging at 2 miles per hour. Sometimes I'll even bump it up to 2.5 in the last half when I feel my body is ready and want to squeeze in more steps.

As far as eating, it's not terrible as I still don't eat out. I have ate more greek yogurt and hummus in my almost daily meals. I caved in one day and made a mini 6 inch yellow cake I made for my small batch meals blog and ate it in one day. Major set back.

For other exercise, I tried to do yoga but I swear I keep forgetting. I have done yoga every Monday and then totally forget the rest of the week until I remember on Sunday night. D'oh!

I did a kettlebell workout one time. Only 15 minutes. For the next 2 days my legs were so sore! Lesson learned, do MORE stretching!!

I decided to have my measurements and only comparing it to my first month rather than the previous month.

Some small but still noticeable changes is that my stomach does feel slimmer. Because you know when you feel that extra weight especially in your midsection and you can feel your stomach just jiggling away? Well I felt it jiggle a little less. Feels great.

Looking at numbers is super encouraging but I think I will up the ante for this next month. What feels better than small victories is of course the bigger victories.

Fingers crossed for next month! See ya at the next check in!
